Knitwear and Fashion Design
Ellie O’Hern is a Parsons-educated Fashion Designer with an emphasis in knitwear. Her designs are influenced by classic craftsmanship, nostalgia, and modern materials and methods.
She is equipped with design skills in CLO3d, Adobe Illustrator, and classic fashion sketching. Her design is greatly influeced by materials and craftsmanship- after all, that’s where art begins. She uses a vintage Brother knitting machine to create one-of-a-kind pieces and inform design decisions.
As a craftsman, she pays great respect to the “rules” of knit- the books in her studio with centuries of knitting knowledge are not just for show. She does complete finishing on garments and prioritizes proper construction. However. she is still a contemproary artist, and is continually at a crossroads of challenging tradition and respecting the craft. Her work reflects this.
